Bain & Company is a leading global management-consulting firm. In 2004, the firm established its presence in the Indian market by opening the Bain Capability Center (BCC) in New Delhi. The BCC plays a critical role in supporting Bain's case teams globally to help with analytics and research across all industries, for corporate cases, client development, private equity diligence or Bain intellectual property. In 2018, the BCC evolved to the BCN (Bain Capability Network) to reflect our growing global presence. The BCN is comprised of Consulting Services and Shared Services.




The role of this position is to develop and deliver, Bain’s proprietary products and solutions within the Consumer Products industry, to our clients while managing a team of 3-5 analysts and associates. The CP teams collaborate with Bain’s CP industry leadership and front-end case teams on the development and deployment of industry specific analytical solutions aimed at answering strategic questions of Bain’s CP clients relating to brand strategy (assortment, pricing, distribution), revenue management (pricing, promotions, profit pools, trade terms), negotiation strategy with retailers, COGS optimization, etc.
A Project Leader is required to have in-depth knowledge on CP datasets, sub-sectors (F&B, Beauty, OTC Pharma, etc.), tools (alteryx, tableau, etc.) and Bain’s CP solutions. A PL owns a client project end to end with guidance from a Manager/Director; manage client communication and expectations through high quality delivery of projects, while providing day to day coaching and mentoring to analysts and associates. PL owns work-planning, problem solving, hypothesis generation and research toolkit on projects.

Core Responsibilities and Duties:


Owns an end to end client project
   • Ensures timely, high quality delivery to clients through effective team management (~3-5 Analysts and Associates)
   • Owns work planning, problem solving, hypothesis generation, research and insight generation
   • Defines deliverables; prioritizes and sets deadlines; reviews work, provides feedback and ensures quality control
   • Is proficient at identifying and using the relevant analytical tools for projects; Ensures zero-defect across all work streams and ensures quality work delivery
   • Leads and contributes to critical work streams, owns the overall answer/insight on projects; proactively resolve problems, provides guidance on other work streams


Go-to-expert on CP sub-sectors and products/tools
  • Proficient on the analytical tools (alteryx/tableau/etc.) & solutions (go-to-market strategy, revenue management, brand strategy, etc.) delivered and relevant to the CP industry
  • Proficient on the key data sources and metrics for CP industry
  • Expertise on 1 or more key sub-sectors within CP covering consumer preferences, trends, market and competitor landscape


• Leads client communication and engagement
  • Understand client needs and situations and adapt to case expectations. Show ability to resolve complex issues across work streams.
  • Communicate data, knowledge & clearly explain insights & implications for the client to the entire team. Generate & screen realistic answers based on sound reality checks and recommend actionable solutions.
  • Effectively manages client and team meetings and deliver clear and professional presentations to the case team, & managers/partners across the Bain system.


Exerts strong positive influence over inducting, developing and retaining top talent
  • Develop professional development plans, provide coaching/training, recognize accomplishments of associates and analysts as direct reports
  • Provides day-to-day coaching on work-planning, problem solving, hypothesis generation and research toolkit; Coaches effectively, which is visible in the Associates and Analysts   
  • Constructively engages in mutual feedback process with supervisor and direct reportees; provides concrete, regular and actionable feedback 
  • Deliver performance reviews, recommends ratings


• Graduate from tier-1 college with 5-8 years of experience in a global professional services firm environment with exposure to business research and consulting
• Preferably an MBA from tier-1 business school
• Experience in providing internal/external strategic consulting to Consumer Products clients, with focus on consumer/marketing analytics and research to develop go-to-market strategies for clients including product/pricing/promotion/distribution decisions
• Ability to analyze quantitative and qualitative data to identify patterns, opportunities and gaps, and integrate across disparate industry data resources (e.g., Nielsen/IRI, Mintel, Kantar, shopper card data, client financials etc.)
• Significant experience applying advanced analytics to a range of business situations & a proven ability to synthesize complex data to generate simple & clear insights
• A deep understanding of modern analytical tools and techniques, including R, SPSS, Python, Alteryx, Tableau, Power BI is preferred
• Strong academic credentials, analytical ability and leadership skills
• Excellent communication skills, can drive senior client/stakeholder level discussions succinctly to favorable outcomes
• Ability to deal with ambiguity and develop open ended ideas to practical results
• Maturity to lead by example, willingness to get into detail as required while also balancing delegation effectively
• A strong team player and demonstrated ability to motivate team members
• Quick learner, good at multi-tasking
