Department Overview

The global PPK group is a key function, which helps to identify, create, and leverage “best of Bain” content, expertise, and also helps Bain practice areas develop commercial strategies.

 

Position Summary

The Reporting & Analytics Manager position is based in Bain’s GBS Gurgaon office and is an integral part of the global PPK team. The individual will work under the Global PPK program team, responsible for providing business intelligence support to global Bain practices using automation and data visualization tools (e.g.  Alteryx and Tableau).

Managers play a critical role on the team.  They are responsible to oversee production of practice commercial reports and dashboards, ensuring timely, high quality, zero-defect analysis and output produced by the associates, as per agreed SLAs.  Managers review and vet underlying logic and approach in proposed data cleaning, analyses and data visualizations, both by the practice and the internal team, supplemented by sound reality checks and actionable solutions. The expectation from a Manager is to solve complex data visualization requests, coach and train the team on tools and work-flows and independently drive communication with senior stakeholders on their requests, managing quality of output and deadlines. Manager is also expected to independently own professional development of junior team members, including coaching, training, regular feedback & career discussions and writing performance reviews.  

Essential Functions

 

The Reporting & Analytics Manager is a leadership role that supports a range of industry and capability Practice areas with analysis of KPIs and preparation of commercial dashboards based on Bain data sources and processes.  In addition to ongoing reporting, the team is also responsible for ad-hoc analysis and requests from the practices.  This requires deep problem solving skills as often times the solution is not easily apparent.  The team’s work focus also include supporting Bain’s Global Strategy & Ops team as well as other global services stakeholders who may require analytical support to perform any key analysis. The major responsibilities of the role include:

  • Leading a group of Associates and Senior Associates to execute reporting for various PPK KPIs
  • Taking responsibility for assigning work streams. Monitoring and managing workload and resolving overloads
  • Ensuring zero-defect in all practice reporting and overseeing production of practice commercial reports and dashboards, ensuring timely, high quality, zero-defect analysis and output, as per agreed SLAs
  • Expertise with tools such as Alteryx and Tableau to be able to guide the team on automated commercial reporting as well as drive continuous improvement
  • Effectively communicate with practice stakeholders, who are senior Bain audience around the world
  • Coaching and training team on tools and processes to drive effectiveness, efficiency and innovation
  • Working with practices to gather business intelligence support requirements and designing automated reporting solutions, leveraging functional and analytical expertise
  • Recognizing and adopting best practices in reporting and analysis: data integrity, dashboard design, analysis, and documentation. Aiming to drive standardization across practice reporting by sharing BDPs
  • Providing responsible feedback in all interactions; recognize team’s development needs and provide feedback toward constant improvement

Qualifications

  • First class undergraduate/post graduate from leading and reputed colleges. Concentration in a quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, Econometrics, Business Analytics, or Market Research is strongly preferred
  • 10-12 years (graduates) of relevant experience working with large, multi-dimensional data sets and developing different types of visualizations
  • Experience managing a team of at least 3 people in a knowledge/research based service delivery domain
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint required along with working knowledge of data analytics software such as Alteryx, Tableau etc. as well as passion for automation of processes/reporting using these tools
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to prioritize projects, manage multiple competing priorities and drive projects to completion under tight deadlines
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to assume leadership role with cross-functional peers
