Department Overview

Bain’s Infrastructure Services team is a global team of infrastructure professionals who are dedicated to building and operating world-class infrastructure for Bain’s product, platform, engineering and software teams. The core mission of the Infrastructure Services team is to provide secure, reliable, scalable, and resilient development and hosting capabilities to our customers. Infrastructure Services manages more than two thousand servers, both physical and virtual, located in strategically placed data centers, in local offices, and in cloud environments.

 

 

Position Summary

This senior position is within the Security & Infrastructure team and has responsibility for the direction of local technical teams in order to support continuous improvement of operational excellence in the delivery of technology and secure infrastructure services. This includes the direct supervising of a successful Infrastructure Operations team and having additional ‘dotted –line’ oversight of other Security team resources in our GBS operations centers.  This role is tasked with supporting the improvement in skills and processes that drive efficiency and scale in the delivery of various technical capabilities that are in support of the needs of various Bain’s technology centers of excellence around the globe.  This position will foster professional development, improve cross-functional communication, build process improvements and develop scalable processed within those teams based in the GBS sites.  This role will also serve as a key collaborator with other global infrastructure engineering and technical areas globally and be responsible for driving and supporting the growth of the team to meet TSG and Bain objectives and support of technology teams across Bain with the purpose of possibly expanding capabilities in GBS functions.

Team Operations

  • Lead Infrastructure Operations team to meet objectives of driving new scale and efficiency in operational SOPs and playbooks by:
    • Working with other technology teams to understand technologies being implemented and requirements
    • Manage the coordination of operational standards and develop ‘how to’ materials
    • Facilitate and assign team members dedicated to technical areas as appropriate
    • Execute Operational Workplans to handle repetitive tasks as determined by working with other technical areas
    • Develop on-call and coverage schedules with teams to eventually move towards a 24x7 capability
  • Drive cross functional interoperability with local Infrastructure and Security teams to build consistent service offerings by:
    • Developing and enabling escalation processes
    • Developing communications channels and fostering better interactions with teams

 

Strategy Development

  • Act as a leader and visionary to create and execute processes for improving operationalizing of technology as a ‘hand-off’ from Engineering and Architecture teams by:
    • Liasing with technical engineering owners and TSG leadership to develop a growth plan for the operations teams
    • Build staffing strategy in line with business objectives
    • Partner with senior TSG leadership to build plans and approaches and strategies to allow GBS teams to meet group and firm objectives

 

Team Management

  • Provide day-to-day oversight of direct report(s), offer guidance and direction where necessary, assist in issue resolution, balance competing interests, and escalate significant concerns as appropriate
  • Dotted-line oversight and management of local TSG Infrastructure and Security Operations teams
  • Contribute to the professional development of the team, including identifying opportunities, review skill plans, suggesting trainings, and writing and delivering consensus reviews. Grow, develop, and improve leadership skills of direct report(s)
  • Provide direction and feedback to impacted teams within TSG regarding new initiatives. Explain business need, help encourage solution orientation mindset
  • Maintain culture (work ethic, at cause attitude, collaboration and teamwork) and act as a role model

 

  • Information Technology/MIS, Technical or Computer Science Degree or equivalent work in a relatable field
  • Minimum 13-17 years’ experience in technology role, with minimum of 3 years’ experience in a manager role
  • 3 years of project management experience
  • Highly developed Technical Skills in platforms such as:
    • Virtualization services (VMWare or Microsft, Citrix), Windows Server/SQL Services; Storage (Nutanix, Nimble, Dell), Public Cloud experience (AWS/Azure)
  • Expertise in Network Management and services (Cisco, F5, Palo Alto); DevOps/Automation (Ansible, Hashicorp, Jenkins); Linux OS; Kubernetes
  • Experience managing medium to large multiple teams with a focus on technology centers.
  • Experience working on a global team
  • Experience in ITSM, ITOM concepts and IT Service Delivery; Microsoft Operations Center
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Strong analytic and problem solving skills;
  • Strong Leadership Skills
  • Ability to work effectively with customers, team members, management, and vendors
  • Ability to work independently and with teams on complex problems and to develop recommendations for solutions
  • Ability to set clear goals and expectations and prioritize activities
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with people regardless of their technical skill set
