Position Summary

The Data Architect will work with internal product teams to find practical approaches to meet their data management objectives. This role will work closely with the Data Architecture Manager and the Data and Analytics Agile teams to design databases and data structures that meet organizational analytics needs using conceptual, logical, and physical data models. The models will be designed to improve efficiency and business value and may focus on issues such as reducing data redundancy, improving data quality, or improving data movement across systems.  Working with Data Architecture Manager, this role will also maintain and expand current organizational knowledge of data management technology and techniques, including but not limited to tools and platforms for data processing and movement.  They will be required to coordinate across the IT. organization to ensure data accuracy, accessibility, scalability, security, performance, data recovery, and reliability are foundational elements of the data ecosystem.

Essential Functions:

Data Management Solutions

  • Work with internal IT software development teams to find practical approaches to meet their product’s data management objectives by:
    • Optimizing data management architecture and processes
    • Coordinate Proof of Concept work to inform technical direction
    • Coordinate execution of changes within data environment leveraging appropriate IT resources
    • Document and share industry best practices, frameworks, and design patterns to assist product teams in making informed data technology decisions
  • Coordinate across IT organization to ensure data accuracy, accessibility, scalability, security, performance, data recovery, and reliability are foundational elements of the data ecosystem

Data Architecture Artifacts

  • Work with Data Architecture, Data & Analytics, and product teams to translate business requirements that document data solution architecture
  • Responsible for the upkeep of technical metadata within enterprise Data Catalog, coordinating with product teams on their data
  • Working with the Product Owner, create and maintain entity relationship data models used by the Data and Analytics product team to implement the Data Lake, Operational Data Store, and Data Warehouse
  • Collaborate with teams to create and maintain entity relationship data models for operational data in their product, as needed
  • Participate in Data Management initiatives, as needed

Data Technology

  • Work with Data Architecture Manager to maintain and expand current knowledge of data management technology and techniques, including but not limited to tools and platforms for data processing and movement
  • Research and evaluate new and emerging technologies and market trends, including best practices and tools
  • Document findings from technology evaluations and contribute to enterprise-wide recommendations regarding these tools

 

Qualifications

 

Required

  • Bachelor's or equivalent undergraduate degree
  • 3-5+ years of experience in enterprise data management
  • 3 years of strong contributions to enterprise data management technology discussion and decisions through project work
  • Demonstrated experience modelling data structures that meet business requirements
  • Experience building Enterprise Data Management solutions
  • Experience recommending Enterprise Data Management strategies

 Preferred

  • Experience using Analytics, BI, and Visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or other for data story telling

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 Required

  • High Competency in relational databases, particularly with Microsoft suite: SQL Server Database Engine, Analysis Services, and Integration Services
  • Well-versed with cloud options for Analytics Platforms
  • High performance and standards as demonstrated by academic or previous job experience
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Creative, analytical thinker and problem solver who is not intimidated by roadblocks and challenges
  • Understanding of how to successfully evaluate problems and develop appropriate solutions
  • Performs well under pressure, possessing great focus while completing projects efficiently
  • Ability to work independently while also working well as part of a team
  • Efficient multitasker who can successfully balance multiple projects at a time, with the ability to quickly understand and incorporate new technologies based on requirements

Preferred

  • Exposure to .NET development in both Windows and Web applications
